Bulletin Board: FCHA 13-14U Bantam wins state championship

The Franklin County Hockey Association’s 13-14U Bantam team left New England Sports Center in Marlborough with some hardware over the weekend.
Competing in the Massachusetts State Championship Tier III Small Division, FCHA went 5-0 on the weekend and closed things out by beating Hyde Park, 4-2, to take home the championship.
“Great effort by all players involved,” Adam Bouchard, who coach’s the team alongside Alex Siano and Bryan Hollister, said. “A lot of these boys started playing hockey together, went off to other teams but they all got back together for one final run and capped it off with a state championship.”
In those five wins, FCHA outscored its opponents 37-7. It started with an 11-3 victory over Saugus-Lynnfield before a 5-1 win over Nashoba and a 10-0 triumph over Cambridge-Somerville.
FCHA knocked off Saugus-Lynnfield in the semifinals, 7-1, before its victory over Hyde Park in the finals.
The team is comprised of Asa Bouchard, Chayton Massa, Dominic McKay, Emmitt Smith, Jack Boron, Max Caron, Logan Tyler, Michael Mickiewicz, Nico Siano, Noah Poreda, Nolan Kalinowski, Patrick LaFontaine, Zackary Hollister and Jed Amstein.
• The FCHA 10U East team earned a pair of wins over the weekend, as goalie Wyatt Wilkins recorded a pair of shutouts to lead FCHA past the Yellow Jackets (4-0) and Amherst (6-0).
Ellis Hayman scored twice, Samuel Edson scored and dished an assist, Lucas Edson scored while Aiden Baldwin and George Bodzinski had the points against the Yellow Jackets while Samuel Edson (two goals, two assists), Jacoby Houle (two goals), Hayman (goal, two assists), Killian Connelly (goal), Gavin Demado (assist), Charles Barbato (assist) and Finnegan Connelly (assist) had the points against Amherst.

Franklin County’s YMCA women’s class
There’s a new women’s boxing class at Franklin County’s YMCA in Greenfield.
The class will be taught by Vanessa Chakour, a former professional boxer. It will be a progressive class for up to 15 people that offers cardio, skill development in the form of footwork, punching technique, defense and partner drills. The class begins on Saturday, March 15.
