SHELBURNE FALLS — Local residents can enjoy a performance from the Metropolitan Opera without needing to take a trip to New York. A live performance of “Aida,” a tragic opera by composers Giuseppe Verdi and Antonio Ghislanzoni, will be streamed live to the Memorial Hall Theater at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Soprano Angel Blue stars as Aida, an Ethiopian princess torn between love and country as she falls for the Egyptian general leading the war against her nation. Over the course of the show, which will be sung in Italian, the opera follows the love triangle between Aida, an Egyptian general and an Egyptian princess. The estimated runtime is three hours and 40 minutes with one intermission.
Tickets are $22 at the door. For more information about Memorial Hall Theater programming, visit shelburnefallsmemorialhall.org/metropolitan-operas.
CHARLEMONT — Participants can learn how to preserve fruits and make jams and jellies with Sherry Hager of Hager’s Farm Market during a workshop at Hawlemont Regional School on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Tickets are $22. Checks can be made out to the Hawlemont, Agriculture and You (HAY) program.
ASHFIELD — The First Congregational Church of Ashfield is sponsoring a six-week coaching program for teens ages 13 to 18 led by Ashfield resident Roberta Wilmore, who has been helping young adults realize their full potential for more than 30 years.
Beginning March 25, Wilmore will meet with 10 youths on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Elmer’s Store on Main Street to offer advice, support and coaching toward goals. Each session will include a meal, and at the end of the six-week program, a public presentation will be held for the whole community.
“You know there are certain things you can do to move your life forward,” Wilmore said in a statement. “One part of that is understanding that at some point all of us need or have needed help from others in order to pursue our goals. I want the teens in this program to understand that who they are matters in the world, and that their contributions matter in the world, and that they have every right to be on their own path and to believe in it.”
