Colrain student named to Castleton president’s list

CASTLETON, Vt. — Colrain resident Sarah Herzig was named to the president’s list at Castleton University for the fall semester.

Herzig is a senior majoring in criminal justice. She previously attended Mohawk Trail Regional School and is the daughter of Ken Herzig and Rita Thibodeau.

Feb. 12: Galentine’s Day celebration

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Falls Area Women’s Club is celebrating “Galentine’s Day” on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Floodwater Brewing Co., located at 40 State St.

Women’s Club members, and those interested in joining, are invited to attend this informal get-together. Galentine’s Day was created on the TV show “Parks and Recreation” to celebrate women’s friendship and camaraderie.

Belding Memorial Library hosting Valentine’s Day tea party

ASHFIELD — Residents are invited to the Belding Memorial Library at 344 Main St. on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a tea party with Nancy “Satch” Hoff.

All are invited to enjoy tea, cookies and sandwiches, and bring their favorite mug.

Workshop planned on cultivating community resilience

SHELBURNE FALLS — Participants can learn ways to cultivate resilience in their communities during a program at the Trinity Church Fellowship Hall, located at 17 Severance St., on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Attendees will discuss what community resilience means and brainstorm ideas for what they can do to make a community more resilient.

‘Lost Nation’ to be screened at Memorial Hall Theater

SHELBURNE FALLS — Screenings of “Lost Nation,” presented by Pothole Pictures at Memorial Hall Theater, will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 22. Both screenings begin at 7:30 p.m.

The film follows the story of Vermont residents Ethan Allen and Lucy Terry Prince during the turbulent period of the American Revolution.

Allen, a Vermont founding father and leader of the Green Mountain Boys, led the resistance against New York landlords seeking to impose their will on Vermont farmers. Terry Prince, a former slave who would become the earliest identified African American writer, was protecting her family and property during a turbulent pre-war era.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and under. The Feb. 22 screening will include a meet and greet with Director Jay Craven, as well as a sing-along.
