BERNARDSTON — The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the Guilford, Vermont man who died in a crash on Brattleboro Road (Route 5) on Tuesday as 49-year-old Joshua Renaud.

Renaud died after his vehicle, a Honda Civic, crashed into a utility pole near 546 Brattleboro Road as he was traveling southbound just before 6 a.m. He was the car’s only occupant, and was transported by Northfield EMS to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, where he was declared dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to DA’s office spokesperson Laurie Loisel.

In an interview on Tuesday, Bernardston Fire Chief Peter Shedd said a helicopter was initially requested to airlift the patient for treatment, but was later canceled. The Bernardston Fire and Police departments, Northfield EMS, Greenfield Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police responded.

The Bernardston Fire Department’s Facebook page released a statement thanking the responding agencies for their service, and sending condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
