GREENFIELD — Latte lovers will have to wait until later this week for their favorite Starbucks beverage as, contrary to the corporation’s previous announcement that its 200 Mohawk Trail location would open Monday, March 10, it is now expected to open in a few days.

A Starbucks spokesperson incorrectly announced the Greenfield location’s opening to be March 10 in an email sent to the Greenfield Recorder Thursday.

“Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers,” a Starbucks spokesperson wrote Friday. “We are happy to confirm that we will be opening a new location at 200 Mohawk Trail in Greenfield, MA on March 10.”

Kate Bates, the store’s future manager, clarified Monday that the corporation’s press office provided “incorrect information.” Bates, after clarifying that she was “hoping to open later this week,” noted that Monday, March 10, was the corporation’s previous planned opening date.

The site plan for the new location was approved in April after representatives from the coffeehouse chain went before the Planning Board in February seeking a special permit to operate as a tenant in the space, which is owned by Orion Pro Friend KP LLC in Miami, Florida.

The 4,000-square-foot facility will feature 86 interior seats and four exterior seats. It will also operate a 14-vehicle drive-thru, an element of the proposal that prompted traffic concerns from the public when it was brought before the Planning Board.

Beginning in 1971 as a Seattle-based coffee bean wholesaler, Starbucks is now a multinational chain of coffeehouses.
