Historical Society hosting ‘Tree Medicine in the Sugar Moon’

CONWAY — The Conway Historical Society will welcome Leslie Chaison, director of The People’s Medicine Project, on Tuesday, March 11, for a discussion on how plant medicine was used by both Native Americans and European colonists.

The discussion will be held at the Historical Society’s Museum, 50 Main St., at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a hands-on session where folks will learn about what local trees were used for medicinal purposes, practice the basics of processing and take home some material of their own. Attendees should bring a vegetable peeler or a whittling knife.

Sunderland Women’s Club hosting bingo fundraiser

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Sunderland Women’s Club will host a bingo fundraiser at the South Deerfield Polish American Citizens’ Club, 46 South Main St., on Friday, March 14.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 7. Bingo cards are $5 each and there will be cash and gift prizes.

Sunderland Public Library hosting annual Pi Day event

SUNDERLAND — The Friends of the Sunderland Public Library will host its annual Pi/Pie Day event on Friday, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event is free and includes a raffle of gift cards for local pie-making establishments, with plenty of pies on hand for attendees to try. While admission is free, the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library will be accepting donations.

Raffle winners will be drawn about halfway through the event.

March 15: Seasonal affective disorder and winter safety training

LEVERETT — Public Health Nurse Sarah Fiske’s program on seasonal affective disorder and winter safety training has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. at the Leverett Public Safety Complex, 95 Montague Road.

Mount Toby Concerts welcoming Colleen Kattau

LEVERETT — Mount Toby Concerts is welcoming folk musician Colleen Kattau to its music series on Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63).

Kattau is a bilingual vocalist, guitarist and composer who draws on themes of hope and inspiration in her music. She has previously been selected as a showcase artist at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and at the Emerging Artist showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.

Dan Kirouac to perform March 26

WHATELY — The South County Senior Center will welcome musician Dan Kirouac to Whately Town Hall on Wednesday, March 26.

The performance will be held in Town Hall’s auditorium, 194 Chestnut Plain Road, and it is open to Senior Center patrons, as well as any other folks who are interested in attending. The performance will start at 10:30 a.m.

Kirouac is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who has performed across New England since the 1980s. His performance is funded in part by grants from the Whately and Sunderland cultural councils.

Deerfield resident named to Dickinson College’s dean’s list

CARLISLE, Pa. — A Deerfield resident has been named to Dickinson College’s dean’s list for the fall semester.

Ella Hynds, who is studying biochemistry and molecular biology, was named to the dean’s list, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.7 for the semester.
