DEERFIELD — The registration deadline for “Engaging with the Legacies of Northern Slavery,” a one-day conference slated for Saturday, April 5, from 9:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., is approaching.
The deadline to register for in-person attendance is Thursday, April 3, while same-day registration is available for virtual attendance. Historic Deerfield is hosting “Engaging with the Legacies of Northern Slavery” in collaboration with the Witness Stones Project, which will mark the completion of the second phase of installing 35 Witness Stone memorials honoring enslaved people in the community.
The program will take place at the Deerfield Community Center, 16 Memorial St. Registrants will receive a link to the recorded presentations following the conference.
SHUTESBURY — Shutesbury Democrats will hold the annual caucus on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Shutesbury Town Hall to elect three delegates and three alternates to the 2025 Massachusetts Democratic Convention.
Any registered Democrat residing in Shutesbury may attend the caucus to vote or to run for delegate or alternate.
The convention will be held at the MassMutual Center in Springfield on Saturday, Sept. 13, and will decide on the Massachusetts Democratic Party platform for 2026.
CONWAY — The Friends of the Field Memorial Library will host the first story walk of the year on the weekend of April 19 through April 21.
The story walk will be set up in Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, April 19, and remain up through 3 p.m. on Monday, April 21. The story is “Sam Curious” by Conway resident Aimee Anderson.

Activity kits will be available in a plastic container on a first-come, first-served basis. Story walks will continue on the third weekend of every month.
CONWAY — Beginning on Saturday, April 26, and continuing on the fourth Saturday of each month, Field Memorial Library is hosting a new story time program.
The program will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the Children’s Room, with the possibility of outdoor readings during the summer. Story readers will be Friends volunteers, or Amy Battisti and staff from the Frontier Regional School District.
CONWAY — Field Memorial Library is hosting “A Journey Through the Roots of American Popular Music,” which will explore the origins of blues, rock and country music through songs and stories, on Saturday, April 26, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Jon Waterman will present the show, with assistance from Li Waterman on bass. The program will explore the characters and events that are part of the history of those genres, as well as the role of music in our lives. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Conway Cultural Council.
CONWAY — The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will bring its Musical Petting Zoo to Field Memorial Library on Saturday, May 3, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
The Musical Petting Zoo is a hands-on exhibit of musical instruments for children ages 4 and up. Students will get a chance to hear, experience and play orchestral instruments. Each participant receives an activity as a part of the program.
