SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Police Department is investigating the theft and destruction of two vehicles from Shelburne Falls that occurred earlier this week.

Between 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, a black Toyota SUV and a Volvo sedan were stolen from a private driveway off School Street and a parking lot off Water Street, respectively. One vehicle was later found at the Charlemont Fairgrounds, where extensive damage had been inflicted upon the grounds, while the other was found in the Deerfield River off Route 2 in Charlemont.

Detective Tucker Jenkins said Friday that the Shelburne Police Department’s investigation is “progressing well,” and with the help of community members, the department was able to identify two suspects. The department obtained images of the two individuals, as well as a third vehicle in connection with the suspects, from security camera footage from the parking lot.

As of Friday morning, Jenkins said he unable to share any additional information. Residents with any information relevant to the investigation are encouraged to contact Jenkins at tjenkins@townofshelburnema.gov.

“We strongly urge all residents to lock their vehicles and remain extra vigilant,” Police Chief Greg Bardwell said in a statement.
