LEVERETT — As multiple projects across town are bringing people together, such as plans for a pocket park on the grounds of the Leverett Library and a refurbishment of the North Leverett Sawmill, an ad hoc group is putting on a potluck for Leverett residents that will serve as a response to what is happening in Washington, D.C. and the world.

“Building Community in a Time of Uncertainty” is the title of Saturday’s event, organized by Leverett Together. The potluck will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63).

The expectation is for attendees to hear from individuals involved in the various projects, ranging from the creation of the Amherst-Leverett Alliance, created in response to possible redevelopment plans at the estate of late Yankee Candle founder Michael J. Kittredge II, to the revival of the Leverett Village Co-op in the Moore’s Corner section of town and the success of the Leverett Connects listserv formed in 2020.

Also to be discussed are the idea for a pocket park at the Leverett Library on Montague Road and the enhancements to the sawmill that predates the American Revolution.

Leverett Together, the hosting group, includes Leverett residents Tom Wolff, Judith Davidov, Sharon Dunn, Judi and Kip Fonsh, Linda Hoer, Pam Szczesny and Barbara Tiner. The organizers anticipate this will be the first of many gatherings to strengthen community.

“Reaching out to one another and building a supportive community in Leverett can help us be ready for what may come our way,” Wolff said in a statement.
