My Turn: Trump the better option for president

I don’t understand how recent column writer Maddie Raymond or many Harris supporters have come to the conclusion that she is a viable option for a presidential candidate [“Harris flawed, but defender of democracy,” Aug. 25]. The Democratic Party’s best option was ostracized from the party his entire family were members of, forced to run as an Independent, and just recently suspended his campaign and threw his support behind a candidate that half of the nation is out to behead like the nation is cosplaying as French revolutionaries.
The writer may be a college student, but as a 30-year-old I’d like to point out during my high school and college years I suffered through eight abysmal years when the president slowed down economic recovery from the worst recession since the Great Depression by flooding the economy with economic stimulus packages that did little to reset anything. My family almost lost its dairy farm and had to borrow money to stay afloat.
Yet, the candidate she and many others proposes is the best alternative wants to set a price cap on groceries. At the end of the day farmers will pay for that policy and go out of business. I’ll laugh and say I told you so when as a nation we’re forced to consume even more products from other countries that have much lower standards for producing food than our own. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
I’ve never been a member of the Democratic Party and never plan to be. In my lifetime I’ve failed to see them produce any candidate or policy that has been a net good for this country.
My side of the aisle as a Republican hasn’t had much if any success in that department, either. With all his flaws, former President Donald Trump is still the better option for president. His policy record is better than the administration Vice President Kamala Harris is a part of. He even expedited the production of the COVID vaccine the Biden-Harris administration just about forced on the population.
The current unmanageable influx of immigrants isn’t because Trump failed policy-wise, its because the Biden-Harris administration undid all of Trump’s policies, turned a blind eye when the influx came, and had no plan to deal with it once it got here. And people want that to continue? I could go on, but I’ve probably already far exceeded my allotted space.
