ERVING — The Erving Public Library will host an outdoor concert with Mister G on Thursday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets.
TURNERS FALLS — As part of the launch of “Exploded View: 8,” Christian McEwen will host “The Giant Listening Ear” at the Great Falls Discovery Center on Sunday, May 5, from noon to 3 p.m.
This event is part of the center’s Food, Farms and Factories programming and is supported by the Montague Cultural Council. McEwen will be gathering many different kinds of stories, ranging from feasts and family recipes to the growing challenges of every day: social, political, financial and emotional. Her project is intended for the entire local community, with special reference to those who identify as Black, Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQ or Latinx; those who are disabled or living in poverty; and refugees, immigrants and elders.
McEwen is a writer, educator and cultural activist, with multiple books to her name, including “World Enough & Time: On Creativity and Slowing Down” (2011) and, most recently, “In Praise of Listening: A Gathering of Stories” (2023). The Williamsburg resident has enjoyed residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, Mesa Refugee and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and has received a fellowship in playwriting from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
