Montague Police Logs: March 3 to March 8, 2025

5:13 p.m. — Caller reports a dog is wandering around in the area of Crescent Street. He went to the house at 3 Crescent St. and saw a dish with food and a tether, but the owners weren’t home. Officer advising the dog was just hanging out at his own property.
7:59 p.m. — Walk-in to the station would like to speak with an officer about a party stealing money from her bank account. Officer advised her to bring in bank statements and highlight the transactions that she didn’t make and he would look into it.
12:15 p.m. — Traffic assistance being requested for a large tow truck that needs to pull an oil truck out of a driveway at West Main and Church streets. Services rendered.
4:44 p.m. — Reporting party would like an officer to assist with taken packages at the Post Office on Avenue A. Officer advised the rightful owner has received the packages and the female involved has been advised of options.
9:43 p.m. — Caller would like to speak to an officer about bank fraud, decided to come to the station. Reporting party asked Greenfield Savings Bank to close her account in December 2024 or January 2025 and they didn’t.
5:26 p.m. — Reporting party states there is a man circling the neighborhood on K Street, angry and screaming. Male is holding something in his hoodie, possibly a weapon. Officers searching the area. Unable to locate.
1:00 p.m. — Property manager on Fourth Street advises she received a call from someone in the building that a woman in an apartment is kicking and screaming. Officers advised. No answer at the door, quiet upon arrival.
1:39 p.m. — Reporting party from Highland School Apartments on Millers Falls Road reports he got a new mattress and box spring yesterday and he wrote his initials on the side of it. Today he went to pay rent and when he got back, he noticed the middle of the mattress was “droopy,” and that his mattress had been taken and replaced with an old one. Believes he knows who has his new one. Officer advised him of his options.

11:29 a.m. — Reporting party states she was walking her dog on Third Street when a car pulled up and someone inside it starting yelling at her about picking up after her dog. She took down a plate number, does not come back to any vehicle. Wants it on record at this time. Report taken.
2:06 p.m. — Reporting party from K Street states she has the flu and a son with disabilities, and her husband isn’t helping her. Reports he is yelling at her. Reporting party called back in requesting no police response, husband left. Officer advised, still en route to check on the situation. Officer advising he spoke to the female, confirmed everything is calm now. Advised her of her options.
2:23 p.m. — Caller from Power Town Apartments on Avenue A states she let a woman into her apartment earlier this month to use the restroom. The woman stole her purse, which had her bank card and PIN number written on the back. Since then, she has had money stolen from her account. Involved female came to the station to speak with officers.
6:36 p.m. — Reporting party from Norman Circle states he received a package he did not order. He opened it and it was Easter-type candy but the bags were covered in a white substance. Reporting party unsure if it was confectioners’ sugar or something else. He handled the bags but did not ingest the candy. He put the package outside on the porch prior to calling. Officer advised. Officer advises the package was addressed to him and that the powder seems to be confectioners’ sugar.
10:17 a.m. — Reporting party states that the top of a tree broke off and is dangling toward the road and power lines on North Taylor Hill Road. Not touching power lines, but would if it comes loose. Department of Public Works notified. DPW foreman advising the tree is not a hazard to power lines and their bucket truck is out of service for the time being.
12:07 p.m. — Caller states that a large pine tree is leaning toward the road on Randall Wood Drive and it looks as if it may fall on the house across the street. DPW notified. DPW foreman advising the tree has been like that for a long time and is not a hazard.
4:42 p.m. — Reporting party from Mormon Hollow Road states her fire alarm was going off for 10 minutes and then stopped. She didn’t know what she should do. Call transferred to the Turners Falls Fire Department.
