As a matter of interest, there will be a public hearing by the Buckland Planning Board on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. regarding the discontinuance of Old Upper Street, location of the Major Joseph Griswold House, also known as the “Mary Lyon House,” as the place where she first started her school before founding Mount Holyoke College. The proposal is for the road to become a private drive for a potential buyer of the historic property.

Next steps will be the Planning Board issuing a report with recommendations, and a vote at Town Meeting.
