Regarding the recent column by Patricia Hynes [“War on women going strong,” Recorder, June 30], I agree with it all — almost.

It’s true: Misogyny is going strong everywhere in myriad ways. However, please leave the trans folks out of this. No trans person is committing “theft of female and lesbian sexual identity.” Identity is not a zero-sum game. Trans people need our support in the same way women do. Someone assigned male at birth who feels and identifies deeply as female and then transitions becomes who they truly are: a woman.

They are not stealing anything from anyone. Feminists should welcome trans females (and trans males, and gender non-binary people) to the fight against oppression because people with marginalized identities need to stick together to fight the real injustices that Hynes otherwise spelled out so cogently in her column.

The book she cited in the column is anti-trans and dangerous. I urge the writer to consider her point of view.
