Bruce Kahn: Principle vs. pragmatism

President Joe Biden is already facing a tough re-election, even before Gaza. Now he's in a no-win situation. Supporting Israel has already cost him votes. He said if Netanyahu attacks Rafah, which has now happened, he would suspend offensive aid. If he does that, he will lose the pro-Israel voters, and the pro-Palestinian voters will likely say "too late." Barring one of them dying before November, either Biden or Donald Trump will be the next president. Possibly even if Trump is in prison. Principle is a wonderful thing. I have some myself. But make no mistake ... if Trump is our next president, he will not just look the other way ... he will not just support Netanyahu ... he will join in completely obliterating the Palestinian people. So, ask yourself, what is your goal? If it's to stand by your principles, then don't vote for Biden, at great cost to the Palestinian people. Which is what Hamas is doing. But if you want to save Palestinian lives, consider your vote very carefully. Because no third party candidate is going to be our next president.
