Kudos to letter writer Bob Armstrong on “Mass Save is saving us money” [Recorder, March 4], for reminding us of the benefits produced by the Mass Save program. Dealing with a particularly cold winter not only chilled our bones but also gave us high-cost utility bills that added to the already high cost of living.

This letter reminds us of the less obvious but critical cost savings that Mass Save gives us in energy savings, greenhouse gas reductions, and non-energy advantages including reduced carbon maintenance costs and improved health outcomes. We do not immediately see these benefits as financial savings, but they are real.

My household has benefited from discounts for installing heat pumps and improved insulation. I will see additional payoff from reduced future heating costs. Massachusetts should continue its support of the Mass Save program.
