MONTAGUE — Hiring committees have been formed to find a new director of assessing and a new town clerk.
Town Administrator Walter Ramsey explained these committees, which are made up of both town officials and resident volunteers, will serve as advisory boards to screen applicants and recommend candidates for the jobs.
“They’ll do an initial recruitment, solicitation and initial interviews, and they’ll recommend a slate of candidates,” Ramsey told the Selectboard on Monday.
Ramsey mentioned that Assessing Technician Oliver Beane is expected to be appointed to serve as the interim director of assessing to handle the responsibilities following the retirement of Karen Tonelli. He said the Board of Assessors plans to appoint Beane to the position, and that appointment will come to the Selectboard later this month for a salary determination. He mentioned that Beane had been aware of Tonelli’s retirement and worked with her to gain an understanding of what the role entails ahead of her Feb. 28 departure.
The appointees to the Director of Assessing Hiring Committee are Ramsey, Board of Assessors Chair Ann Cenzano, Selectboard Vice Chair Matt Lord, Town Treasurer Eileen Seymour, Town Accountant Angelica Desroches and resident Ella Ingraham.
The Town Clerk Hiring Committee was also established, and interim Town Clerk Tina Sulda will serve on it. She became interim town clerk on Feb. 18 after Kathern “Beanie” Pierce left the town clerk role earlier that month.
Sitting on this committee alongside Sulda will be Assistant Town Administrator Chris Nolan-Zeller, Selectboard Clerk Chris Boutwell, retired Town Clerk Deb Bourbeau and resident Ariel Elan.
Originally, Lord asked to serve on the Town Clerk Hiring Committee until he requested to switch with Boutwell at Monday’s meeting. He explained to his colleagues that he has not made a decision regarding whether he will apply for the town clerk job, so he doesn’t want to “foreclose the opportunity.”
