Another season, another first place finish on the mountain for Mohawk Trail’s Addie Loomis. 

Competing in the opening PVIAC alpine ski race of the season at Berkshire East, Loomis completed the giant slalom course in a time of 31.76 seconds, the best overall finish on the day. 

Loomis wasn’t the only Warrior with a stellar day on the slopes, as seven Mohawk Trail girls earned top 20 finishes. Emmy Sisum placed second (32.76), Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner took sixth (34.16), Lydie Pinkham earned eighth (34.77), Mae Hoff placed ninth (34.91), Brooke Koshinsky came in 13th (36.73) while Naomi den Ouden took 20th (38.03). 

Caroline Makosiej (24th, 39.30) and Ohia Dellert (25th, 39.65) rounded out what was a stellar start to the season for Mohawk Trail. 

The Warrior boys also had a strong showing on Thursday, placing three racers in the top 10. 

Weston den Ouden took third (45.05), Grayson Bishop placed fifth (49.82) while Phineas Tuttman came in eighth (50.2) on the slalom course. 

Ben Zaronty took 21st (57.89) while Oliver Ferris placed 41st (1:05.66) to round out the top five Mohawk Trail finishers. 

Girls basketball

Franklin Tech 64, Putnam 38 — Lea Chapman put up 24 points to propel the Eagles to a Franklin County League South triumph in Springfield on Thursday.

Franklin Tech led 33-20 at the half before outscoring Putnam 22-3 in the third quarter. 

Kyra Goodell finished with 12 points, Hannah Gilbert scored 10 points while Cordelia Guerin added seven points in the victory. 

Lenox 28, Frontier 27 — The Redhawks led 24-14 in the third quarter but the Millionaires defense held them to just three points the rest of the way. 

Chloe Parsenios hit a 3 with two minutes left that put Lenox ahead, 28-27, and that score held to the final whistle, with Frontier falling in a Franklin County League North contest on the road on Thursday. 

Boys basketball

Mahar 56, Turners 31 — The Senators defense held the Thunder to five points in the first half, allowing them to pull away with an independent win in Orange on Thursday. 

 Off the bench for Mahar, Daniel Finch scored three points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Lian Lopez-Baez scored seven points and Malaki Grummell finished with eight points and 13 rebounds while also taking two charges. 

"Our bench was outstanding tonight,” Senators coach Chad Softic said. “Lian, Daniel and Malaki gave us a huge   spark when we needed it."

Marshall Ames finished with 16  points while Will Barnes added 11 points in the victory. 

Branden Truesdell scored 12 points, Caden Williams-Senethavisouk recorded six points, Alex Quezada finished with four points while Kessick Beck and Jackson Cogswell both had three points for Turners. 

Late Wednesday results

Girls basketball

Greenfield 55, Mahar 31 — The Green Wave pulled ahead 35-20 at the half and didn’t look back, cruising to a Franklin County League North win at Nichols Gymnasium on Wednesday. 

Amber Bergeron scored a game-high 22 points while Tayler Bergeron tossed in 13 points for Greenfield. Gloria McDonald scored eight points while Anna Bucala and Carly Blanchard each added six points in the win. 

Irati Martinez finished with eight points, Nevaeh Scribner scored six points, Thea Whitmore and Hayden Comeau each had four points while Taylor Paluk knocked down a 3 for Mahar. 

DA results

Here are the Deerfield Academy results from Wednesday: boys hockey beat Loomis (4-2), boys swimming beat Suffield (114-66) and girls   swimming beat Suffield (94-85) while boys squash lost to Kent (5-2). 

Boys basketball fell to Nobles (56-55), girls basketball lost to Taft (52-26) while wrestling fell to Eagle Hill (57-21).
