LAVA Center launching monthly story circles

GREENFIELD — Starting Feb. 14, The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. is launching a new monthly conversation circle sharing stories. The story circles will take place every second Friday of the month from 6 to 7 p.m.

Some months may begin with a theme or prompt, such as “How I Came to Greenfield,” and others may be simply “What Would You Like to Share?” February’s theme is “Forever Friends.”

Attendees will begin with the model of using a talking stone or stick or other object. The person speaking holds the object for as long as they want to speak, then passes it on. Others do not interrupt or ask questions, but simply listen. At the end of the hour, there’s a debrief where each person offers a closing thought. The structure may be adjusted over time depending on the interests of the participants.

‘Board Game Night with Mayor Desorgher’ series starts Feb. 27

GREENFIELD — Mayor Ginny Desorgher and the Greenfield Recreation Department are launching a new community engagement series, “Board Game Night with Mayor Desorgher.”

The first board game night will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, from 6 to 7 p.m. and will take place on the second floor of 20 Sanderson St.

The series of board game nights is an extension of Desorgher’s community engagement initiatives. In 2024, Desorgher and the Greenfield Recreation Department hosted monthly walks from June to October. In addition, the mayor partnered with the Greenfield Senior Center for several walking events with the senior community.

“The best part about being mayor is connecting with the community,” Desorgher said in a statement. “I welcome all to participate in Board Game Night with Mayor Desorgher and look forward to enjoying some checkers, cards and more with everyone involved.”

“Come share the board, share moments and exercise your mind,” Recreation Director Christy Moore said in a statement.
