Coaches vs. Cancer

The Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game at Turners Falls High School has extra meaning this winter.

This year’s game will be between the Turners Falls and Franklin Tech boys basketball teams, with tip-off set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, with all proceeds from ticket sales, the 50-50 raffle and the chuck a duck contest will go directly to a Turners Falls High School alum battling cancer.

Jenna Putala, who graduated from Turners Falls High School in 2016, was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma last May and has been undergoing treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since.

All proceeds raised during the girls and boys JV games — which get underway at 4 p.m. on February 7 — will also go to Putala.

For those who can’t make it, there are other ways to donate. Friends and family of Putala are running the Boston Marathon this April to raise  money for Dana-Farber. To donate, visit the link in the online version of this story at recorder.com/sports. To donate directly to Putala, venmo @JennaPutala.
