CHICOPEE — Every time the Greenfield football team had the Chicopee offense backed up and facing a long conversion, Pacers quarterback Braeden Siano came through for his team.

Siano and the Chicopee offense converted five third downs and two fourth downs in the first half alone, dominating possession and limiting the Green Wave to a mere three drives in the first half.

It wasn’t just about converting on third and fourth down however. Siano threw for a trio of touchdowns in the first half before the Pacers tacked on two scores in the final 24 minutes of action, with the Green Wave falling 30-6 in an independent game at Szot Park on Friday.

“That’s a good quarterback we faced,” Greenfield coach Mike Kuchieski said. “We had the ball one time in the first quarter. We have to get the defense off the field and we have to make some plays offensively. We’re young. We’re learning and we’ll get better moving forward. We have a tough opponent next week and a tough opponent the week after. It’s not going to get any easier.”

The Green Wave offense was limited to four first downs in the first half and three in the second half, as the Pacer defense didn’t give the Greenfield offense much to work with.

The Wave’s lone touchdown came on the final play of the game, when Mason Cummings connected with Jon Breor in the corner of the end zone for an 8-yard score.

Despite the loss, Kuchieski said he was pleased with how his young team competed and for not quitting despite the deficit.

“I’m proud of the way our kids stuck together,” Kuchieski said. “They didn’t quit and they played hard. All the cliches are there. We’re exposing some first year guys but I can’t say anything bad because they played hard and didn’t give up. Hopefully it gets better with time.”

Chicopee put the ball in the end zone on its opening drive of the game.

Siano picked up a big first down with his legs to get Chicopee into Greenfield territory, but the Wave defense was able to force a fourth-and-9 from their own 34.

Siano dropped back and lofted a go-ball to Jacob Lozano, who skied up to make the catch and walk into the end zone, giving the Pacers a 6-0 lead with 8:50 to play in the first.

The Chicopee defense forced a three-and-out on the Green Wave’s opening drive and the Pacers proceeded to go on a 15-play drive that ate nearly nine minutes on the clock, capped off by Siano rolling to his left and finding Edwin Lozado in the back of the end zone for a 3-yard score, putting Chicopee up 12-0 with 9:11 to go in the half.

On the drive, Siano hit Cyair Charles for a 26-yard gain on a third-and-20 and later, Jacob Lozada ran for 26 on a fourth-and-9 to set the Pacers up inside the Wave 10.

Jacob Lozado picked off a Caleb Murray pass on the next Green Wave possession, setting Chicopee up at the 50.

Siano found Charles open up the middle for a 26-yard score, giving the Pacers an 18-0 advantage with 2:59 to go in the half.

After a Greenfield punt to open the second half, Chicopee went on a nine-play drive that went into the Green Wave red zone, but the Greenfield defense drove the Pacers back and forced a fourth-and-goal from the 19.

Siano dropped back and lofted a perfectly placed pass to Lozado on the left pylon for a touchdown, putting Chicopee ahead 24-0 with 3:57 to go in the third.

After the Green Wave turned it over on downs, Jeremiah Elliot scampered in for a 17-yard score that gave the Pacers a 30-0 lead with 7:15 to go. The touchdown led to running time the remainder of the way.

Greenfield did have some success in the passing game. Caleb Murray connected with Cummings for a 37-yard gain in the second quarter and late in the half, Murray lofted it over the middle to Breor, who skied up to make a catch for a gain of 32.

Angel Politis, the Green Wave’s top back, was limited to 10 yards on four carries.

Greenfield is back in action next Friday, going on the road to face South Hadley.
