HS Roundup: Ashlie Galenski’s hat trick leads Frontier field hockey past Minnechaug

 It was a second quarter to remember for the Frontier field hockey team on Wednesday.

Trailing 1-0 after 15 minutes, the Redhawks struck for four goals in the second period, and ultimately secured an impressive 5-2 Suburban League victory over Minnechaug in South Deerfield.

Ashlie Galenski’s hat trick led the way for the Hawks (4-1), while Macy DeMaio and Ashley Taylor also found the back of the net in the win. Assists were credited to Taylor, Addie Harrington and Claire Kirkendall, and Frontier goalie Kyra Richards made three saves.

Frontier next hosts Holyoke on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Longmeadow 2, Greenfield 0 — The Green Wave defense did their job to slow down a potent Lancer attack, but the Longmeadow defense didn’t allow a goal as the Wave fell in a Suburban League contest Wednesday. 

Kayden Viencek made nine saves for Greenfield. 

Holyoke 1, Franklin Tech 0 — The Eagles were unable to get on the scoreboard in a loss to the Purple Knights on in Holyoke Wednesday in County League action. 

Madison Markwell made 10 saves for Franklin Tech.

Greenfield 3, Sci-Tech 2 – Nathan Gheorghita notched the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute, as the Green Wave rallied from a 2-1 deficit to capture a 3-2 win on Wednesday.

Clivens Carter Michel and Caleb Thomas also scored for Greenfield, with Gheorghita and Jack Laurie recording assists in the win. Goalie Liam Grahame-Lawson stopped 10 shots in net.

South Hadley 4, Mahar 0 – Tristan Gaj made 13 saves in net for the Senators, which dropped to 0-4-1 on the season with the loss.

Vermont Academy 5, Four Rivers 1 — Cooper Whitney found the back of the net while Miles Retzlaff made seven saves in the Otters’ loss on Wednesday. 

Golf

Frontier 159, Monson 198 – A 1-over 36 from Ryan Cetto powered the Redhawks to another decisive victory on Wednesday at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

Jacob Cornelison (40), Brady Wood (41) and Porter Hall (42) were the other scorers for Frontier, which improved to 7-3 overall thanks to its fourth straight win.

Mohawk Trail 185, Pathfinder 205 — Logan Moore was the match medalist with a 43, propelling the Warriors past the Pioneers on Wednesday at Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown.

Phineas Tuttman (44), Tyler Zdanowicz (49) and Deeghan Kelleher (49) completed the scoring for Mohawk Trail.

Frontier 15, St. Mary’s 50 —
Redhawk Evan Hedlund was the top finisher at Hampshire College on Wednesday, completing the course in a time of 17 minutes, 43 seconds to help Frontier walk away with a pair of wins. 

Frontier and PVCICS finished in a tie, with the Dragons’ sixth runner finishing higher than Frontier’s to give PVCICS the edge.

Frontier 15, St. Mary’s 50 –
 Behind an individual victory from Sylvie DiBartolomeo, the Redhawks swept a quad-meet at Hampshire College in Amherst on Wednesday.

DiBartolomeo crossed first overall with a time of 20 minutes, 46 seconds. Teammate Liv Christensen was fourth overall (22:07), while Phoebe Radner (sixth, 22:56), Maia Christensen (eighth, 22:56) and Maddie Antes (ninth, 23:13) also scored toward the team total for Frontier.

Girls soccer

Frontier 6, Holyoke 2 — Maddie Fagan scored a pair of goals and dished an assist in the Redhawks’ victory over the Purple Knights in South Deerfield Tuesday. 

Carly Robertson scored a goal and dished two assists, Skyler Steele, Jazzy Hayes and Faythe Sobieski each tallied a goal while Maggie Nichols had two assists and Aylen Shaw made 10 saves in the win.

Mohawk Trail 19, Palmer 36
Mohawk Trail 15, Veritas Prep 50 —
Virginia Krezmien was the first runner to cross the finish line (14 minutes, 59 seconds) while fellow Warriors Natalie Lanoue (16:26) and Ella Thompson (18:13) were the next two runners to cross as Mohawk Trail earned a pair of victories in Palmer Tuesday. 

Katie Osterman placed sixth (19:58) while Georgia Gauthier took seventh (20:28) for the Warriors.

Mohawk Trail 15, Palmer 50
Mohawk Trail 17, Veritas Prep 39 —
Warriors Peter Healy (13:38), Rex Kuoppala (13:42) and Carson Richardson (13:47) were the first three runners to cross the finish line in Palmer, propelling Mohawk Trail to a pair of wins Tuesday. 

Aidan Gauthier placed sixth (15:57) while Leo Boltz earned 10th (18:19) for the Warriors.
