Kayla Lampe had quite the weekend, and stood atop the mountain – literally – on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Shelburne Falls resident, a two-time Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, made her Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race debut in the 63rd running of the 7.6-mile race at Pinkham Notch, N.H. and was dominant. Lampe captured the women’s title with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 9 seconds.

She was two minutes faster than runner-up Laura Manninen (1:17:02). Amherst’s Jenna Gigliotti finished fifth on the women’s side. Lampe was 24th overall on the day, and Colorado’s Joseph Gray was the men’s winner in 1:02:21.

Lampe, who is a Pennsylvania native, stayed steady behind Manninen for the first half of the race, then made the pass and ran away with it. The grueling uphill race featured 50 miles-per-hour wind during Saturday’s event.

Shelburne Falls’ Richard Larsen competed in yet another Mount Washington race, and the 72-year-old finished 92nd overall with a time of 1:29:40. Leyden’s Glenn Caffery also cracked the top 100 overall, as the 62-year-old was 99th in 1:31:11.
