A hot start in four ball action set the tone and allowed the Country Club of Greenfield to take the 25th annual Franklin Cup over Crumpin-Fox Club over the weekend.

Playing at Country Club of Greenfield, CCG took five of the possible six points in four ball action on Saturday morning and in the afternoon session, Country Club of Greenfield scored four out of a possible six points in foursome play to take a commanding 9-3 lead heading into Sunday’s single play.

There, CCG won eight of the 12 matches to cruise to a 17-7 victory. It gives Country Club of Greenfield a 15-9-1 edge over CFC all time in the competition.

In four ball action, the pairings of Andy Lesenski and Will Conant, Dave Kennedy and Scott Cote, Cody Booska and Brady Booska and Jason Kelton and Mike Archer took a full point in their match. CCG’s Chris Bourbeau and Gunnar Moore tied with CFC’s Nick Stern and Mark Waskiewicz to split the point while CCG’s Justin McCloud and Jamie Crocker tied with Crumpin-Fox’s John Marchefka and Timothy Crowley to split the point.

In the afternoon session, the pairings of Cote and Archer, Kennedy and Kelton, Lesenski and Conant and Brady Booska and Cody Booska each won their matchup to earn four total points for Country Club of Greenfield. The pairings of Stern and Chris Stoddard and Waskiewicz and Jeff Houle took their matches to earn two points for CFC.

In singles action on Sunday, Cody Booska, Moore, Bourbeau, Archer, Brady Booska, Kennedy, Conant and Crocker earned victories to seal the tournament win for CCG. Waskiewicz, Stern, Alex White and Keith Burch won their matches for Crumpin-Fox.

Tennis

The Greenfield Tennis Association’s Fall Classic took place over the weekend at the Highland Street Courts in Greenfield, with Brian Lamore and Charlie Huskra beating Steve Pedigree and Jared Berthiaume 6-2, 6-2 to take the championship. Sixteen teams competed.

In the consolation round, Mike Bassett and Jim Bassett beat Paul Agrillo and Tony Agrillo 6-0, 6-2.

Franklin County Junior Bulldogs 14, South Hadley 6 — Jackson Puchalski ran for 180 yards and a pair of scores while Avery Lococo added a two-point try as the Bulldogs beat South Hadley Sunday.

Liam Gould had six tackles, Toby Campbell had three tackles and a sack while Nate Ortiz had three tackles in the win.

South Hadley 20, Franklin County PeeWee Bulldogs 14 — Brock Puchalski and Gavin Keene scored while Weston Hobbs added a two-point try in the Bulldogs’ loss to South Hadley Sunday. Orion Ortiz, Jace Brunelle and Kent Warner played well defensively in the loss.

Frontier Junior Redhawks 20, Northampton 7 — Russell Harris, Jack Carney and Carter Greene found the end zone in the Redhawks’ win Sunday.

Melchizedek Friz recovered a fumble while Clark Nugent, Brody Bailey and Bryson Lewis played well in the win.

Frontier Senior Redhawks 28, Northampton 14 — Riggins Kopcza ran for three touchdowns, one off a pass from Caden Washburn, while KK Taylor added a touchdown in the Redhawks’ win Sunday.

Johnny Stanisewski, Barrett Kicza, Kyrie Petrizzi-Richmond, Ryan Washburn and Lennon Pleasant scored in the Redhawks’ win Sunday.

Basketball

Caleb Murray and Grayson Thomas both scored 15 points while Jon Breor tossed in 14 points as Greenfield beat Hatfield, 68-28, on Sunday in a boys varsity contest in the DRIVE League at Stoneleigh Burnham.

Garrett Willard scored eight points for Hatfield.

After, Oscar Korson scored 19 points as Brattleboro beat Hampshire, 54-42. Braylen Jarrett had 10 points for the Raiders.

In the final game, Max Kauffman scored 19 points in Narragansett’s 48-39 win over Easthampton.

In men’s league action on the DRIVE League Sunday, Brenden Rios scored 24 points and Rob Jones added 20 points in VT Nameless’ 68-62 triumph over 413 Elite. Tajean Joyner (19) and Nick Malo (10) led the way in the loss.

After, Mike Menard scored 18 points in Bruso Computer Solution’s 63-58 victory over Dunkin Donuts. Brian Clark had 16 points while Jermey Thomas added eight points in the loss.

In the final game of the night, Futures Unlimited beat Rattigan & Son’s, 76-54, behind 26 points from Parker Hickey and 18 points from Tim Cooley. Mason Meadows had 11 points in the loss.

Field hockey

Penelope Gioules scored four goals and added an assist, Dani Zraunig had two goals and four assists, Savannah Thomas added two goals and an assist while Charley Deane scored in the Greenfield Rec Bantam’s 9-1 win over Wilbraham Saturday.
